The Sleepy Little Alphabet
All I had to do was run my mouth, er, keyboard, about the lack of good alphabet books and they start falling into my lap! This gem is from our most recent Scholastic book order to benefit the preschool my children attend. My favorite part of this book is the spotlight on lower case letters. (Go ahead, teach your toddlers the phrase "lower case." They can handle it, I promise!) This is another great book to save as the last book read before bed, because all the lower case letters are on pictured in various stages of getting ready for bed themselves. The upper case letters are adorably standing by as the parents, trying to walk their little ones through the steps of their nightly routines. The details in the illustrations on each page are amusing and at the same time reinforce the relationship between lower case and upper case letters and, if you point it out, there are phonics lessons at your fingertips in every image. Read this to your sleepy little one and they might just dream their way to expressive recognition of lower case letters. Maybe. :)
