Books worth reading.

Time and again.

A River of Words

A River of Words

I love picture books for older readers.  They are really helpful in extending the attention span of preschoolers & kindergarteners as a step toward chapter book read alouds,

and are still fun for 1st-5th graders, at home or in a classroom setting!

A River of Words

is a delightful, inspiring book by Jen Bryant that

tells the story of William Carlos Williams.

This biography is full of poetry and practicality, just like William Carlos Williams' life!

Readers are treated to a great example of both finding your passion

and following your dreams.

Melissa Sweet, a Caldecott Medal and Golden Kite Award winner, illustrates the lively pages of this book and she does a marvelous job.  Each page is a work of art and contributes so much to the experience and enjoyment of the book.

There are so many wonderful little details included in this picture book biography: Willie's mother's love and support, his friends that were artists and writers, the dedication and compassion he showed as a physician, and, best of all, so many of his poems!  It all adds up to a book worth reading; a book that inspires young readers to embrace what they love, to keep doing what they're good at and to grow and stretch themselves in important ways when the time is right.
