Mama Seeton's Whistle
I love this picture book by Jerry Spinelli!
The story and the illustrations will warm your soul.
The throw-back illustrations by LeUyen Pham are precious-
a wonderful Norman Rockwell lens for little ones today
to have the pleasure of looking through for a while.
I think it's fun to give kids this glimpse into what it's like on the other end of being called home.
The sometimes joyous effort by a loving parent to put good food on the table.
The gift of freedom and the anticipation of reuniting.
And the "missing you" that goes both ways.
This sweet book is based on the memory of the real Mama Seeton, Thelma Seeton, and I think including the author's note at the end when reading this with little ones is a great idea.
Our memories of loving adults are one of life's simple pleasures!
