13 Movies to Watch With Your 9-12 Year Old Kids
One thing that reading so much has cultivated in our family is an appreciation for great
really good stories that capture our hearts, spark our imaginations, expose us to new ideas and fuel good conversation. Good movies can be a really fun way to enjoy a great story together as a family, but as our kids have entered their tween years, choosing films that are appropriate and engaging for their age and maturity level has become a real challenge. Kids move into double digits and feel too old to be limited to G rated animated movies or formulaic PG movies featuring talking animals (or a main character living out some tired old tale) but parents know they aren't grown up enough for the
content in many PG-13 movies.
I spend a considerable amount of time searching for good fit movies for our family and I wanted to share a good list for families with kids in this age group. Definitely check out information on them at
"Parents Guide" link to determine for yourself if they are right for your family and your kids; there are some heavy topics covered across this list- bullying, death, alcohol, foster care, etc.... (all dealt with magnificently, in my opinion). They aren't movies
kids were ready for at 6, 7 or 8, but as older kids, we have had some really important conversations around themes in these movies.
Here are 13 movies our family has really enjoyed over the last year:
